Wiki Gender: Our story about collaborative production of open feminist knowledge in Arabic
Description
Showcasing the experience of Wiki Gender in cumulative and collaborative work to organize and produce open feminist knowledge in Arabic. The work deals with gender, feminism, and other women issues through the use of the Wiki platform and relies on the personal interest and voluntary commitment of individuals in the topics at hand. How did the project start and how it is developing How does the Wiki platform and methodology facilitate the development of our work at different points in time? How do we work together to address topics and draw editorial lines so as to become a self-organizing group on issues of gender, feminism, and other topics that affect women?
About WikiGender
Wiki Gender was launched in December 2016 with the support of the Goethe Institute in Cairo and in collaboration with the Arab Digital Expression Foundation (ADEF), as a collaborative platform that produces feminist open knowledge on gender, feminism, and women issues in Arabic. The Wiki’s work is cumulative and ever evolving, and it is largely based on the voluntary contributions of individuals who are passionate about research and writing on gender, and feminism as well as other issues affecting women. Alongside our work in knowledge production, we curate content produced by others that fall within the fields of our interest, be it written or multimedia content. Additionally, we translate into Arabic selections of texts and academic papers covering the topics of gender and feminism. We are interested in content that covers gender and feminism: from concepts, terminology and used jargon, to films, songs and visual arts, to people, incidents and cases, as well as campaigns and the organizations behind them.
